胆囊息肉实际上很常见。很多病人是在家庭医生那里做B超检查，发现胆囊上长了息肉，家庭医生会把病人推荐到肠胃科医生这里做进一步的检查和治疗。
我们知道胆囊像一个小袋子一样，胆囊的口我们叫做胆囊的颈部，它是接总胆管的地方，这里比较狭窄。如果息肉长在“袋子”里，因为里面比较宽，一般不会造成什么大问题。如果息肉长在胆囊的颈部，长得稍大一点就会造成阻塞的症状。胆囊息肉一般都是腺瘤，肿瘤的大小决定了它的危险程度。我们一般以1厘米为界，直径小于1厘米的息肉我们认为癌变的可能性比较低。如果息肉小于3～4毫米，我们就完全不用担心它。如果息肉大于7～8毫米，我们会建议患者每半年做一次超声波检查。看息肉有没有在长大。如果息肉已经超过1厘米，而且是长在胆囊的颈部，我们会建议病人做胆囊摘除。因为息肉一旦超过1厘米大，我们就会担心这个息肉会有癌变的可能。
胆囊癌发病率不高，但却是一个死亡率极高的疾病。一旦发现胆囊癌，将很难治疗。我还没有看到能治好的。因此，一旦发现超过1厘米大的胆囊息肉并且还没有癌变的，我们就会建议病人赶快把胆囊切掉。虽然病人失去了胆囊，但总比不去处置胆囊息肉，任其发展为胆囊癌要好。一旦出现胆囊癌，再想切除胆囊就晚了。
